Islamia College Peshawar, which gained university status in 2008, has seen a significant surge in student enrollment, rising from 2,000 to over 8,000, with some estimates nearing 10,000. To address this growth, the administration initiated plans to expand the university’s library to better accommodate the increasing student population.

Construction of the new library building began in 2017 with an initial budget of Rs 126 million. However, despite five years passing, the project remains incomplete. The grey structure of the building stands unfinished, with construction materials strewn across the site, diminishing the prestige of this historic institution.

Due to the prolonged delay, the project’s cost has risen to Rs 157 million. The ongoing delay has significantly affected students, as the existing library does not have enough space to meet the needs of the growing student body.

The administration of Islamia College University Peshawar has largely remained silent on the reasons behind the extended delay. In addition to the library, other important facilities, including research centers and academic classrooms, have also been under construction for the past five years.
